Interventions

Sponsorships & Mentorship

The Foundation sources for funds from donors and individual well-wishers then uses these to provide sponsorship opportunities to children from less fortunate households.  The beneficiaries are mapped from poor neighbourhoods and registered with the organization. The school is sought and approached for the enrolment of the beneficiary which then takes place once all processes are completed. The Foundation also provides the identified beneficiaries with learning materials such as textbooks, exercise books, pens and school uniforms among other items. We provide 100% high school and university scholarships to children selected as having the potential to reap the rewards from such an opportunity. So far, more than 300 children have benefited, and three of these students are now in college. In each case, they are the first from their respective families to have attained more than a primary education.

We quickly learned that paying school fees for these children is not enough. If you grow up in the slum, the slum is all you know about life. That’s why we pair our children with successful local and international mentors. The children meet and talk with these mentors and learn more about the careers they want to pursue.

In addition, the students attend workshops during school breaks. These workshops are led by academic counsellors, motivational speakers and therapists. This exposure provides opportunities for the children to develop life skills such as personal growth, family matters and appropriate social behaviour.

Livelihoods Support to Parents

The Foundation, in a bid to provide a sustainable solution to lack of school fees for destitute children, supports poor parents access reliable livelihoods options as a means to the same.  We have also created a committee to help parents and recently graduated students manage the next stage of their lives. After high school, if the committee determines that the student should receive higher education, we set up a scholarship. If a career is deemed to be the best option, the committee helps the student with CV creation, networking opportunities, mock interviews, and job application assistance. This same support is offered to parents.
