Tego Wolasa

Currently a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Nairobi – Entrepreneurship, Tego holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Islamic Finance from the Pakistan-based Alhuda Centre for Islamic Banking and Economics. He has a second MBA in Strategic Management from Kenyatta University. Tego also holds a postgraduate diploma in Islamic banking and insurance from the London-based Institute of Islamic Banking and Insurance-UK. He has a Bachelor of Business Management degree with a specialization in Finance and banking from Moi University. Tego also holds a Certificate in Arabic and Islamic Studies from Umma University and many other short trainings.

He has over 17 years of experience in the banking and finance industry. During the 17 years, six of them were in conventional banking and 11 years in Islamic banking.

During his tenure, he has worked in various management positions, including Branch manager at KCB and First Community Bank, corporate banker, Product development manager, and relationship manager at KCB Islamic Banking. 80% of his duties entail training and capacity building.

He has been advising, training, and capacity building, focusing on Islamic Saccos and NGOs for the past nine years. During that time, he was involved with Jisr Microfinance, a consortium of Islamic bankers in Ethiopia, Taqwa Sacco, Ribaless Sacco, Aneemat Sacco, Amana Sacco, Barqa Sacco, Barka Sacco, Africa Education Development Trust (AEDT) and Helping hand.

In addition, Tego is serving as the Shariah Board member at Jisr Microfinance, Taqwa Sacco, Shariah advisor for Barka Sacco, and Frontier Selam Sacco.

Tego has been working as a part-time Islamic finance lecturer at Umma University. He has also lectured at the University of Nairobi, teaching faith-based banking. He has recently started teaching Islamic banking and Buruuj Training Institute.

He has also conducted dozens of public lectures and workshops on Islamic Entrepreneurship & Islamic Finance in mosques, social halls, and local Universities around Kenya, Ethiopia, and Burundi.

Tego is co-authoring an Islamic Finance question-and-answer handbook expected to be published in June 2023. He has recently published a dictionary translating his native Burji language into English, Swahili & Amharic. Tego also writes for several blogs concentrating on Islamic Finance and Entrepreneurship.

Tego has in the past taken part in numerous charity activities including educating needy students through the Nairobi Burji Professionals Association.

Daud Abdi

Currently based in Nairobi’s Kayole Area, Daud is a graduate from Majlis Maarif in Kilifi County. He has over 15 years’ experience in preaching and educating the masses in Kiamaiko and Kayole slums.

Daud is known mainly for his vehement support of the needy through various fundraising activities across Nairobi County.

Najma is the manager and coordinator of Kiamaiko Foundation. She is in charge of the daily running of the Foundation and coordination of the activities of the Foundation.

A motivated, highly adaptable, and effective graduate of Corporate Communication and Management eager to make the world a better place through quality education.

Before Joining the Kiamaiko foundation, Najma has worked with Jisr Capital, Momentum Credit and the BTI College in various positions.
